After a terrible night when I had to get up every second hour to take some pills (well, I didn§t have to wake up because I was awaked, anyway), it’s clear. I end on K2. Before I even started! The bandage is soaked with blood, the pillow with tears…
Yesterday evening we went to see Americans. Actually, they came first. They knew. We chatted for a while, and then the doc wanted to see my finger. I told him it won’t be so easy, so he suggested me to come over. So we did. He pulled several boxes with medicaments, tools, disinfection…Meanwhile we checking the saturation of our blood by oxygen. The index of acclimatization. I had the absolutely best results! When we removed the bandage, Dan pulled up the eyebrow and started to look for some more instruments. After he applied anesthetics, he cleaned the wound and stitched it. He played with it for about an hour! It’s not big, about 3 – 4 cm. Unfortunately, the wound is not a clear cut, but crushed, and difficult to clean it – there is a possibility that some bone chips could stayed there. And I also can’t move with the last phalange. I was given the antibiotics, Ibalgin to prevent inflammation…and recommendation – if it were my finger I would go home immediately!
So far it was painless.
Anyway, thanks a lot, they are great, without any comments they helped me – US Expedition K2 East Face 2007 – Chris, Bruce, Pasquale, and brave doc Dan. Well, we have met several times in the mountains. They want to finish the route they started in 2005. We met at that time, too.
What to add? How much is it painful? How much of strength, money, time….the preparation cost? How did I neglect the company, my children, and my girlfriend? How much will I have to pay for it? Well, I don’t need to mention it. There are people who will be pleased, and people who will be sad as I am. Thanks a lot to those who helped me and supported me. And of course, thanks to the sponsors. I am sorry!
There are things, dreams, desires, and there is a life. And the life goes on, without asking what we want. I went to Mt. Everest 10 days after I put away the crutches – and I summited it! When I summited Kangchenjunga, my grandma died at home. At another expedition to K2 I was heard that my father died. After the return from another expedition the first thing I did was that I rushed to hospital to see my mum who was after surgery. During next expedition I was divorced – since then my ex-wife is my good friend. And now, my children are waiting for me, and also my beloved Lucka. I cry, but why for? I am a happy man! I am looking forward to all of you, and the life goes on. Sometimes we have to get through the bad moments to be better again!
Radek
P.S. We try to solve the helicopter but the weather is bad, and what’s more, our satellite phone doesn’t wanna work, the credit is getting down and the phone doesn‘t wanna accept another one. Life is a dog…
